This is the last month of the game shooting season so make the most of this source of low fat, reasonably priced and highly nutritious meat, which is best suited to casseroles at this time of year. Fruit and vegetables will mainly be from store but you can supplement them by sprouting fast growing seeds on your windowsill. Forcing will also hasten fresh crops of chicory and rhubarb. Deep sea fish are excellent quality at this time, as long as the weather enables boats to go out, but try to ensure the whole fish is utilised by eating parts such as the cheeks. In freshwater Grayling are the catch of the month.

This is one of the best sites I have seen in ages. I would like to get involved but I’m not a farmer. I hope to begin growing more of my own food this year and help my community set up a community garden.
What superb recipes thanks very much Janet
