Organic Farming suffering from flawed research — again?

“Are Organic Foods Safer or Healthier Than Conventional Alternatives?: A Systematic Review” by Crystal Smith-Spangler, MD, MS et al was published in the Annals of Internal Medicine (Sept 4 2012).

But says Dr. Charles Benbrook in his Analysis of the Research Review : “The analysis supporting these conclusions is flawed in several ways.”

Dr Benbrook is chief scientist of the Organic Center, a non-profit organization that promotes and researches the health benefits of organic food.  He worked in Washington, D.C. on agricultural policy, science and regulatory issues from 1979 through 1997. Dr. Benbrook also served as the executive director of the Board on Agriculture, National Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Benbrook has a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an undergraduate degree from Harvard University. He holds an adjunct faculty position in the Crop and Soil Sciences Department, Washington State University.
